How Summit Spend works
What Summit does with your company card spend, from the charge to your accounting system.
Summit Spend works with the company cards you already have. It doesn't issue cards. It brings in every charge, helps your team add what each charge needs, and sends the finished spend to your accounting system.
From charge to books
- Charges come in. An admin connects your company card accounts through Plaid, which supports many banks and card issuers. New charges show up on Transactions through the day. See Connect, assign and share cards.
- Cardholders add the details. Each cardholder adds a receipt and a memo to their own charges, on the web, by email or in the mobile app. See the Cardholder quick start.
- Charges get coded. Each charge gets a GL account and any other coding fields your company uses, such as department or project. Summit suggests codes based on how you've coded similar charges. See Code charges.
- Someone approves. Approvers review charges on the Approvals page or in the mobile app. See Review and approve.
- Spend goes to accounting. Charges that are coded, approved and complete are ready to export to Sage Intacct, or to download as a file. See Connect your accounting system.
Who does what
| Role | Usually |
|---|---|
| Admin | Sets Summit up: cards, people, policy, approvals and the accounting connection |
| Manager | Codes and approves charges, follows up with cardholders, runs exports |
| Member | Adds receipts and memos to their own charges |
See Invite people and choose roles for exactly what each role can do.
Nothing acts on its own until you say so
Reminders, automatic export and Summit applying codes on its own all start switched off. An admin turns each one on when the company is ready.
