Cardholder quick start
The two things Summit needs for every charge, and how to give them in about a minute.
For every charge on your company card, Summit needs two things from you: the receipt and a short memo saying what the purchase was for. Most charges take about a minute.
1. Sign in
- Go to app.summitspend.com.
- Enter the email address your invite was sent to and choose Email me a sign-in link. Open the link from the newest email.
- You'll see the charges on your own cards, plus any cards your admin has shared with you.
2. Attach the receipt
Use whichever way is easiest:
- On the web. Open Transactions, click the charge, and drop a photo or PDF of the receipt into the Receipt section, or click browse to pick the file.
- By email. Send or forward the receipt to receipts@summitspend.com. Summit reads it and suggests the charge it belongs to. Send it from the same email address you sign in with. Receipts from any other address are dropped, and nothing tells you so.
- On your phone. In the Summit Spend app, open the Receipts tab and tap Take Photo, or open the charge and tap Attach Receipt.
- Several at once. On the web, open Receipts and upload them all. Summit suggests a charge for each one.
Unless your admin has turned on automatic attaching, an emailed or bulk-uploaded receipt waits in Receipts until you confirm its suggested charge. See When a receipt doesn't match.
More detail: Add receipts.
3. Add a memo
- On the web, open the charge and type what the purchase was for in the Memo field.
- A good memo says what you bought, who it was for, and the job or project. For example: "Fittings for the Lot 12 rough-in" or "Lunch with the framing sub to review the schedule".
You can't edit the memo in the mobile app yet, so add it on the web.
4. Coding fields
Your admin may ask you to fill in coding fields on the charge, like a GL account or a project. Pick the closest match; Summit often suggests one at the top of the list. If you're not sure, leave it and your admin will fix it. Once a charge has gone to accounting it may be locked, so ask your admin if something needs to change.
5. Lost a receipt?
If your company allows it, open the charge in the mobile app and tap I don't have a receipt (on Android, Request receipt waiver). Say why, and an approver will approve or deny it.
Reminders
Your company may send you emails about charges that are still missing a receipt or a memo. Once you add them, the reminders stop.
