Admin setup checklist

The order to set Summit up in, start to finish.

Setting Summit up goes fastest in this order. The Set up your company card on your Summit home page tracks these steps, and only admins see it.

  1. Connect your accounting system so your GL accounts and coding fields come in first. See Connect your accounting system.
  2. Connect your cards and assign each one to its cardholder. See Connect, assign and share cards.
  3. Invite your team and pick their roles. See Invite people and choose roles.
  4. Set receipt and memo requirements and turn on reminders. See Receipt and memo requirements.
  5. Set up approvals. See Set up approvals.
  6. Code a few charges and run your first export to check everything lines up.

Then send your cardholders the Cardholder quick start and your approvers the Approvers and managers guides.

What everyone else sees

The first time someone signs in to your company, Summit shows them a short welcome made for their role. It points an admin at the first setup step, shows an approver where approvals arrive, and shows a cardholder how to add receipts. People without a password are offered one at the end. Any step can be skipped, and the welcome shows only once.

Each person gets the getting-started cards for what they do, and each card ticks off from their own work, not the company's:

Card Who sees it Steps
Set up your company Admins The steps above
Get ready to approve Anyone who can approve Review their first approval, choose how they hear about approvals
Start using your card Anyone with a card assigned to them Add a receipt, add a memo, email a receipt in

Someone who does more than one job sees more than one card. An admin who also carries a card sees all three. Each card can be closed on its own, and ? › Getting started in the top bar brings them all back.

Anything in Summit that acts on its own, like reminders, automatic export or Summit AI applying codes, starts switched off. Nothing goes out until you turn it on.
