Managers, departments and assistants

Set who each person reports to, which department they're in, and who can act for them.

Open People and click the person to change any of these. You need the Admin role, or a custom role with the matching permission.

Who someone reports to

Under Access, pick their manager in Reports to, or choose No manager.

This matters for approvals: a workflow step set to Submitter's manager sends the charge to whoever is in Reports to. See Set up approvals. Reports to is only for people who can sign in.

Department

Under Profile, pick their Department. The list comes from the departments in your accounting system, so the field only shows once your company has departments in Summit.

The Department column in Settings > Cards & receipts > Card owners shows each card owner's department. See Card owners and receipt requests.

Assistants

An assistant can act for someone with limited access: their transactions, receipts and reimbursements. It's handy for an office manager who handles receipts for a busy executive.

  1. Open the person who needs help.
  2. Under Assistant, pick the person who'll help in Add assistant, then click Assign.

The assistant then clicks Act for in the left menu and picks the person. A banner shows who they're acting for, and Return to my account takes them back.

To stop it, click Remove next to the assistant's name. If you deactivate someone, their assistant can't act for them until you reactivate them.
