How receipt matching works
How Summit pairs a receipt with its charge, what each receipt status means, and when it attaches one on its own.
Every receipt ends up on one charge. How it gets there depends on where you added it.
- Added on the charge itself. If you open a charge and drop the receipt into it, it's attached to that charge straight away. Nothing to match.
- Emailed or uploaded on its own. Summit reads the receipt (merchant, amount and date), looks for the charge it belongs to, and either suggests one or, if your admin allows it, attaches it.
What each status means
Open Receipts to see every receipt you've sent in. The filters across the top show where each one stands:
| Filter | What it means |
|---|---|
| Unmatched | Summit hasn't found a charge for it yet |
| Suggested | Summit has a likely charge in mind and is waiting for someone to confirm it |
| Matched | It's on a charge. Click View Transaction to open it |
| Duplicates | It looks like a copy of a receipt that's already uploaded. This filter only shows when there are some |
Each receipt card shows what Summit read from it: the merchant, the amount, the date and how sure it was of what it read (for example, "OCR 92%").
Match a receipt yourself
- Open Receipts and choose Unmatched or Suggested.
- Click Find Match on the receipt.
- Summit lists the likely charges, with a match score, the date and the card. Click Match on the right one.
You can only pick from charges you can see, so a Member sees charges on their own cards and on cards shared with them.
Matching from the Receipts page is included on the Professional plan and up. On any plan, you can open the charge and add the receipt there.
When Summit attaches a receipt on its own
An admin can turn this on in Settings > Summit AI, under Receipt matching, with Auto-attach sent-in receipts. It's off until someone turns it on.
When it's on, a receipt you email in or upload without picking a charge is attached only when Summit is sure. All of these have to be true:
- It's one of your own charges, on a card assigned to you.
- The amount matches to the cent.
- The date is within 3 days of the charge (7 days for hotels, airlines, car rental and other travel).
- The merchant name matches, when Summit can read it.
- Exactly one charge fits. If two could, Summit doesn't guess.
- That charge doesn't already have a receipt.
Anything less certain waits under Unmatched or Suggested for you to confirm.
For admins: tuning suggestions
In the same Receipt matching card, Advanced tuning has Auto-match threshold: how confident Summit must be before it suggests a match. A lower number gives more suggestions; a higher number gives fewer wrong ones.
