Sync and export errors

What a Sync Error means, the common causes, and how to fix and retry.

A charge says "Sync Error"

Open the charge. The banner says in plain words what went wrong, and Show error details has your accounting system's own message. Fix the cause, then click Retry sync.

To find every failed charge, use the "transactions have sync errors" banner on Transactions, or Retry N Failed on the Accounting page.

Common causes

What the error is about What to do
The accounting period is closed Reopen the period in your accounting system, or change the charge's date, then retry
A required field is missing, like a department or project Fill in the coding field on the charge, then retry
The card isn't mapped An admin maps it in Settings > Cards & receipts > Card owners
The record was deleted or already paid in Sage Check the record in Sage. It may need to be re-created
Sage couldn't be reached Usually temporary. Wait a few minutes and retry

Why can't I change a charge that's already exported?

Once a charge is paid in your accounting system, Summit locks its coding so the two don't drift apart. If it truly needs to change, fix it in your accounting system, or email support@summitspend.com and we'll help.

The bank connection shows an error

An admin opens Cards & banks and clicks Reconnect Now. If the bank fully disconnected the card, connect the bank again from scratch.
